Preservation Society of Loudoun County |
....preserving our natural, cultural, and historic resources |
The Preservation Society undertakes many activities during the year to support our goals and provide opportunities for the membership to participate. All of our activities are open to the membership and designed to advance our goals within a friendly social context. |
In May 2007, the Preservation Society published a compilation of historical, cultural and environmental organizations in the county. For the first time, citizens have a single point of reference when looking for a group to join. Booklets are available in county libraries, Thomas Balch Library in Leesburg, selected HOA offices, and county community centers. |
The Preservation Society was formed on Valentine’s Day, 1974. To continue that tradition, we hold our annual membership reception on or near that date each year. Held at a historic location in Loudoun County, it is an opportunity for current members to socialize and renew their membership and for potential members to learn more about the organization. |
The Preservation Society’s newsletter, En Garde, is sent periodically to all members. It provides news and information about the Society, its activities, and issues of significant concern. |
The Society’s annual meeting is held in September to conduct Society business, elect new Board members, and present our Preservationist of the Year Award. A distinguished speaker keynotes the event. The 2007 meeting will be held on Saturday, September 22, from 3-5 p.m. at Rust Sanctuary, Leesburg. |
In 2008, the Preservation Society will launch a program to raise public awareness about endangered resources in the county. The program will include a resource guide for citizens who are beginning the process of trying to save a historic site. |
